MOST of this series and Anne Rice continues to never fail me. Lestat's crazy "life" has me hooked page to page. The way she writes Lestat's personailty is addicting and so fun and dramatic and EVERYTHING I could want. The descriptiveness of everything, the characters, the emotions, the yearning, the *vibe* is spectacular. I love how serious and not serious the book is/Lestat is, with all of the trauma and depressive beats mixed with his flamboyant, bold, evocative and emotional personality, and the occasional relieving fluffiness (sometimes literally iykyk) is always appreciated. NO SPOILERS but the reuniting of specific characters is SO lovely and sweet in this, however brief.
HOWEVER, this book really was not for me at the halfway point. It takes a sudden religious turn with little focus/interaction with Lestat, and for me it was too preachy and simply uninteresting. I wasn't expecting the entire second half of the book to be basically all about an interpretation/retelling of christianity, which was really disappointing and frankly frustrating. Not what I'm looking for from a vampire fantasy/horror novel, and it really strays from what the rest of the books earlier in this series were like. Very underwhelming, I skimmed the entire second half of the book heavily. Sorry! Really hoping Pandora and The Vampire Armand are better.
What can I say, I'm a sucker for vampires. All 5/5!
